This concept was inspired by the Thanks for Typing hashtag, which was initiated in 2017 by professor Bruce Holsinger to highlight the often-uncredited intellectual and emotional labor of women, particularly academic wives, who typed and edited manuscripts for male authors. This campaign exposed the history of invisible labor around women who ghost-wrote, typed, and intellectually supported major male writers but were never credited for their often instrumental work- which shaped many of our most famous pieces of literature.

Jane Marcet's Conversations on Chemistry was possibly the best-selling English-language chemistry book of the first half of the nineteenth century. She and her Swiss-British physician and chemist husband, Alexander Marcet, created a highly influential, mixed-gender social and intellectual network within London dubbed ‘The Marcet Circle .” This was unheard of for the time as it included female intellectuals and authors like Mary Somerville, Harriet Martineau, Maria Edgeworth, and Frederica Sebright.
